Overview</font></font></h2> <p align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">SNV <b><i>Timer</i></b> is an application, which combines <b><i>advanced</i></b> <i><b>analog</b></i> <b><i>Alarm Clock</i></b> and <b><i>countdown</i></b> <b><i>Timer</i></b> that can work separately. In the <b><i>alarm</i></b> mode, you can specify an <b>actuation</b> date and <b><i>time</i></b>. In the <b><i>timer</i></b> mode, you can specify a number of <b><i>days, hours, minutes, or seconds </i></b>on the expiry of that the chosen <b><i>tasks</i></b> run. The actuation <b><i>time</i></b> and number of <b><i>days / hours / minutes / seconds</i></b> can easily be set by simple rotation of the corresponding arrows with mouse. Also, these values can be specified in the corresponding settings window, or with keyboard. In addition, in the <b><i>alarm</i></b> mode, you are able to specify how often the <b><i>tasks</i></b> run: daily, in the chosen <b><i>days of the week, monthly, or yearly</i></b>. In the <b><i>timer</i></b> mode, you are able to specify a number of executions and a <b><i>time</i></b> <i><b>unit</b></i>. As in the <b><i>alarm</i></b> mode as in the <b><i>timer</i></b> mode, the <b><i>actuation</i></b> date and <b><i>time</i></b> are saved after exiting SNV Timer (note that after manual changing the current system <b><i>time</i></b>, the <b><i>Timer actuation time</i></b> may need to be corrected!).</font></p> <h2 align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="2" color="#DFF8FF">2. Actions</font></h2> <p align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">The <b><i>Alarm</i></b> and <b><i>Timer actions</i></b> are specified in the <b><i>Alarm</i></b> Settings and <b><i>Timer</i></b> Settings windows that can be opened by clicking the corresponding <b><i>Advanced</i></b> button. <b><i>SNV Timer</i></b> can use seven <b><i>actions</i></b>: showing a <b><i>customizable</i></b> message box, <b><i>playing an audio</i></b> file or a<b><i> voice alert,</i></b> <b><i>showing a picture / video</i></b> file, <i><b>opening</b> </i>an external <b><i>application / folder / file / web page ( URL ),</i></b> a COM port command, a modem command, <b><i>power control</i></b>.</font></p> <h3 align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">1. Showing a Message Box</font></h3> <p align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">You can choose an usual <b><i>message box </i></b>( in the center of the screen ) or compact one ( at the bottom right ). The length of the message box must be less than or equal to 350 characters. The specified message box is always shown on top most. Also, you can specify any text files with random selection of text strings from ones. It may be the collections of proverbs, quotations, etc. For advanced users: To make the text files with random selection of text strings, you should apply the following rules:<br> The file must be in simple text (<b>TXT</b>) format<br> Each line of the file must contain one complete sentence without line feeds<br> The word Random must be in the beginning of the file You can open an usual message box with the Windows command line. Using the command line, you can open the customizable SNV Timer message boxes with other applications.</font></p> <h3 align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">2. Playing an Audio File</font></h3> <p align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">All the basic <b><i>sound</i></b> formats are supported. If a folder is specified, any audio files are <b><i>randomly</i></b> <b><i>selected</i></b> from one ( by<i><b> WAV, MID, MP3, WMA </b></i>filename extensions ). Also, you can make your own <b><i>voice alerts</i></b> <b><i>with</i></b> <b><i>microphone</i></b>.</font></p> <h3 align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">3. Showing a Picture / Video File</font></h3> <p align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">The <b><i>JPG, BMP, GIF, WMF</i></b> picture formats and all the basic video formats are supported. If a folder is specified, any pictures and/or video files are randomly selected from one ( by <i><b>AVI, MPE, MPG, MPEG, JPG, JPEG, JPE, BMP, GIF, WMF</b></i> filename extensions). The selected file is always displayed in <b><i>full-screen </i></b>mode.</font></p> <h3 align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">4. Opening an External Application / Folder / File / Web Page</font></h3> <p align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">If an external application is specified, its start folder must match the folder where its executable file ( i.e. the file with <b><i>EXE, COM, or BAT</i></b> filename extension ) is located. Other files are opened with their associated applications (for example, the command <b><i>http://www.microsoft.com</i> </b>runs<b> </b>the default web browser and opens the web site <i>www.microsoft.com</i>). The files with unregistered file types are not opened.</font></p> <h3 align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">5. COM Port Command</font></h3> <p align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">This command is the specific text string that is sent to the selected COM port to control the external <b><i>devices</i></b> attached to your computer ( for example, it may be some <b><i>domestic electronic devices </i></b>).</font></p> <h3 align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">6. Modem Command</font></h3> <p align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">This command is the specific AT command that controls the modem attached to the COM port ( for example, the command atdt 765-4123 <b><i>calls the phone number</i></b> 765-4123).</font></p> <h3 align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">7. Power Control</font></h3> <p align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">Four power control commands can be used: <b><i>turn of</i></b> computer,<b><i> reboot or restart computer</i></b>, l<b><i>og off computer, start screen saver</i></b>. The confirm message box can be displayed before the execution of any power control command. The above-named actions can be set in any combination. If they are chosen simultaneously, they always run in the order 2, 5, 4, 3, 6, 1, 7. To run ( at SNV Timer startup ) the chosen tasks, that were overdue while SNV Timer was inactive, use the Execute Overdue Tasks command.</font></p> <h2 align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="2" color="#DFF8FF">3. Additional Features</font></h2> <p align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">SNV Timer includes the additional applications <b><i>Calendar</i></b> and <b><i>Notepad</i></b>.</font></p> <h3 align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">Calendar</font></h3> <p align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">This is a <b><i>month calendar</i></b> with the following abilities: copying the selected date to the clipboard, calculating the <b><i>difference between</i></b> the current date and selected one, opening on top most. You are able to open any number of instances of <b><i>Calendar</i></b> simultaneously.</font></p> <h3 align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">Notepad</font></h3> <p align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">This is a <b><i>simple text editor</i></b> with the ability to read, edit, and print any <b><i>simple text files </i></b>( .<b>TXT</b> and .<b>RTF</b> or <b>TXT</b> and <b>RTF</b> ). This <b><i>Notepad</i></b> has the following abilities: specifying the color of text and background, locking the note text ( to prevent any accidental damages ), <b><i>opening on top most,</i></b> using as the system <b><i>default editor </i></b>for any text ( <b>.TXT</b> or <b>TXT</b> ) files ( to use the most of the above-named abilities, you should maximize <b><i>Notepad</i></b> ). You are able to open any <b><i>number of instances of Notepad simultaneously.</i></b></font></p> <p align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="1" color="#DFF8FF">A wide variety of means are available to modify the <b><i>appearance</i></b> of SNV <b><i>Timer</i></b> and its additional applications. Use the View menu item of the Main window menu to open the View Settings window. In this window, you can change the <b><i>colors, fonts, background pictures, size, shape</i></b>, <b><i>speed of appearing / disappearing</i></b>, and other properties of the most of the <b><i>SNV Timer</i></b>’s windows, <b><i>message</i></b> boxes, and tool tips ( some features are unavailable in Windows 98 / 98SE / Me). In order to run SNV Timer on Windows startup, use the Autostart menu item of the SNV Timer’s <b><i>taskbar menu</i></b> ( to open this menu, right-click the SNV Timer icon. This icon is usually located in the <b><i>system tray</i></b> at the bottom right of your screen ). The Autostart command is valid for all the user accounts which are registered in your system. In order to create the additional instances of <b><i>SNV Timer</i></b>, use the New Instance menu item of the <b><i>SNV Timer</i></b>’s taskbar menu. Every instance can have its <b><i>own tasks and appearance / skin.</i></b> You can see the list of all the SNV <b><i>Timer</i></b>’s instances by using the Show List menu item. To remove the current active <b><i>instance of SNV Timer,</i></b> use the Remove Current menu item.</font></p> <h2 align="justify" style="margin-bottom: -15"><font face="Arial" size="2" color="#DFF8FF">4.
